“13” Auditions

SEEKING     Excellent Kansas City-based female and male actor/singer/dancers between the ages of 13-16 to play age 13

Breakdown of Roles “13”

READ CAREFULLY    Following directions is an integral part of the audition and selection process.

HOW TO SUBMIT    Please submit your updated resumé and current headshot with the performer’s name and age in the subject line to casting@spinningtreetheatre.com. Dropbox links will not be opened. If there is a particular role in which you are particularly interested, state your intent. Also state your full availability (as opposed to your preference) on both audition dates. Audition appointments are limited; it is recommended that you submit immediately for consideration. If you are granted an audition, you will receive a reply email with the audition venue and your timeslot. No phone calls or follow-up emails, please.

PREPARATION     Prepare a 32-bar selection of a musical theatre song in the style of “13” that displays both vocal and acting range. (Selections from “13” are allowed.) It is recommended that you also have a 16-bar cut in case you are asked for that instead of or in addition to. An accompanist will be provided. Sheet music must be marked clearly and written in the key in which you will sing. No a cappella; no recorded accompaniment; no video submissions. You may be asked to stay and read from the script the evening of your audition.

CALLBACK   Fri Oct 2 5:30-9:30pm. Callback will include a dance combination and additional readings from the script. You may be asked to sing again. If you are invited to the callback for “13” on Fri Oct 2, we will let you know before you leave the building on the day of your audition.


Performers of all ethnic and racial backgrounds are encouraged to attend.


  • 1st rehearsal: 1/26/16    (Rehearsals Tuesday through Sunday. Tues-Fri 5:00-10:00pm; Sat & Sun 10:00am-6:00pm. Absolutely no rehearsal conflicts will be considered.)
  • 1st performance: 2/11/16
  • Final performance: 2/28/16

PERSONNEL     Artistic Director Michael Grayman, Managing Director Andrew Parkhurst, Musical Director Gary Green and Choreographer Kenneth Personett will attend with casting authority.
