Editor’s Picks 2011–12 season

Vigthor Zophoniasson as El Gallo in “The Fantasticks”

by Karen Hauge

Spinning Tree Theatre—The Fantasticks. Scheming and true love and crutches, oh my! I had the unusual privilege of being able to see this show one-and-a-half times, the first half of which ended unfortunately in injury and had to be resumed at a later date. If it’s possible, the show was even funnier and more ingeniously produced with the narrator (brilliantly maneuvered by Vigthor Zophoniasson) zooming around the stage in a wheelchair or hopping on crutches. A small production that showed huge potential from this talented new company! (May 2012)

Writers’ Picks 2011–12 season

Spinning Tree Theatre: The Fantasticks – A cute musical about a boy falling in love with the girl next door as part of a scheme set forth by their parents sounds quaint and entertaining enough for me. But throw in witty dialogue, a staged abduction, and situations of life and love that make you think about your own relationships, and you have Spinning Tree Theatre’s The Fantasticks, one of the funniest and most creative shows I’ve seen in a long time.
