Youth Theatre Project 2020: Postponed to 2021

UPDATE 5/15/20: YTP ’20 has been postponed to June 21 – July 3, 2021, due to COVID-19. All 2020 registrants have been notified by telephone and guaranteed a spot in the 2021 camp.

UPDATE 2/24/20: We are now accepting applicants for a wait list for YTP ’20. Thank you for your interest in being part of Kansas City’s inclusive theatre project!

Spinning Tree Theatre seeks Kansas City area young artists (age 13-18) for 2020 Youth Theatre Project: a fully immersive theatrical training opportunity for teens of all abilities in partnership with Variety KC The Children’s Charity. YTP 2020 will culminate in a fully-realized production of INTO THE WOODS JR. by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine.

Be careful what you wish for, as Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s cockeyed fairytale comes to life in this adaptation of their groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning musical.  Into the Woods Jr. features all of your favorite characters — Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch — in this lyrically rich retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables.

June 15-28, 2020 at Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf in Overland Park, KS. Mon-Fri 10:30am-3:30pm (subject to change). Performances Saturday, June 27 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm; Sunday, June 28 at 2:00pm.

2020 Youth Theatre Project has limited available space. You will be notified within one week of receipt of application if you’ve been selected to interview.

In order to provide a more inclusive opportunity, Spinning Tree Theatre is offering Youth Theatre Project 2020 tuition-free.
